DSD TECH Bluetooth Privacy Policy

scanning: author:DSD TECH time:2023-06-06

DSD TECH Team provides DSD TECH Bluetooth (Android package name: com.reb.dsd_ble), a free tool for communicating with compatible Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) devices, controlling compatible relay devices, and configuring compatible Beacon devices. This policy explains how the Android app handles information. It does not cover other DSD TECH apps or all activities on our website.

Information used by the app

The app does not require an account or ask you to register. It does not upload your Bluetooth communications, nearby-device information or app settings to DSD TECH Team. The current Android app has no Internet permission and contains no advertising, usage analytics or remote crash-reporting SDK.

To provide the features you use, the app processes the following information on your phone:

  • Nearby Bluetooth devices: device names, Bluetooth addresses, signal strength, service identifiers and relevant advertising data. This information is used to discover and display compatible devices and connect to the device you select.

  • Bluetooth communications: text or hexadecimal data you enter, data received from your connected device, and relay or Beacon configuration commands and responses. Data you send is transmitted over Bluetooth to the connected device; received data is processed and displayed on your phone. What the connected hardware stores or forwards depends on that hardware and any systems you connect to it.

  • Local settings: app preferences such as the automatic sending interval are stored in the app's private storage to preserve your settings between uses.

The app does not read GPS coordinates or calculate or store a geographic location history. It does not access your contacts, photos, camera, microphone, SMS messages, health information or advertising identifier.

Bluetooth and location permissions

On Android 12 and later, the app requests nearby-device permissions to scan for and connect to Bluetooth devices. On older Android versions, the relevant Bluetooth permissions are used as required by the operating system.

On Android 6 and later, the app also requests location permissions for BLE scanning and complete Beacon discovery. Android treats Bluetooth scanning as potentially location-related because nearby devices and Beacon broadcasts can reveal information about a person's surroundings. Granting this permission lets the app discover these devices; the app does not use it to read GPS coordinates, track your movements or upload your location. Some Android versions or phones may also require the system Location setting to be enabled for scanning.

You can deny or revoke permissions in Android's app settings. Scanning or connecting may not work if the necessary permissions are denied. The app does not request background location permission.

Sharing and third-party services

We do not sell Bluetooth or app data, and the app does not send that data to advertising or analytics services. Bluetooth transmissions go to the hardware device you choose to connect to. Connect only to devices you trust, and avoid sending sensitive information unless you understand the hardware's security and subsequent handling of that information.

Android and Google Play may independently process information when distributing the app, managing permissions, backing up app data or operating their services. Those activities are governed by the relevant platform provider's policies and your device or account settings. The app's use of Android Bluetooth functions does not itself mean that DSD TECH Team receives your Bluetooth data.

Local retention, deletion and system backups

Nearby-device lists and communication screen contents are used during app operation and are not maintained by the app as a persistent communication history. In the Send/Receive screen, only the latest 1,000 displayed characters are retained; older displayed content is discarded as new content arrives. The CLEAR button clears that screen's received content and sending input. Clearing the app screen does not erase information already transmitted to your Bluetooth hardware.

Saved app preferences remain until they are changed or the app's storage is cleared. You can remove local app data through Android Settings by clearing the app's storage, or by uninstalling the app. The app has no user account and no developer-hosted Bluetooth data to delete.

The app allows Android system backup. Depending on your Android version, device manufacturer and backup settings, saved preferences may be included in cloud backup or device-to-device transfer and may be restored when the app is reinstalled or moved to another phone. These backups are managed by your platform or backup provider, not DSD TECH Team. Manage or delete backup copies using that provider's settings; clearing local app storage alone may not delete an existing backup.

Diagnostics and security

The app may write limited technical diagnostic messages, such as BLE service identifiers or parsing errors, to Android's system log. Debug builds used for testing may also log commands or received content. The app does not automatically upload these logs to us. If you choose to send screenshots or logs to support, review them first and remove information you do not want to disclose.

Local app preferences use Android's private app storage. Bluetooth security depends on the connected hardware, its configuration and the operating system. The app does not provide an additional end-to-end encryption layer for data sent to Bluetooth devices. We cannot guarantee that every connected device or communication link is secure.

Support requests

If you email dsd_tech@outlook.com, we receive your email address and any message, screenshot, log or other information you voluntarily provide. We use it to respond to your request and resolve the issue. Email delivery and storage also involve the email service providers used by you and us.

We retain support correspondence for six months after the issue is resolved, then delete it. You may request earlier deletion by contacting the same address. Please do not include passwords or other unnecessary sensitive information in your request.

Websites and cookies

The app does not use cookies. Its privacy-policy link opens a website in your browser; the app does not attach your Bluetooth communications, device list or saved settings to that link. Website hosting, browser services and website tools may separately process information such as IP addresses or cookies under their own notices and settings. This app policy does not describe all website tracking practices.

Children's privacy

The app is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly request personal information from children under 13. If a child has provided personal information to us through support, a parent or guardian can contact us to request deletion.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the app's features or information-handling practices change. We will publish the revised policy at the privacy-policy link available in the app and update the date above. Where applicable, we will provide additional notice or request permission before introducing a new use of information.
