Privacy Policy for DSD TECH Switch

scanning: author: time:2024-01-19

DSD TECH Team ("we", "us", or "our") provides DSD TECH SWITCH, an Android application for discovering, connecting to, and controlling compatible Bluetooth Low Energy relay devices. This policy describes the data handling of the Android app, package com.reb.switchbt, including the current version 2.3.

The App does not require an account. It does not include advertising, behavioural analytics, or an automatic crash-report upload service. Its relay-control functions communicate with nearby hardware over Bluetooth, rather than through a developer-operated Internet service.

Data the App accesses and uses

The App processes the following information to provide device discovery, saved-device management, authentication, and relay control. Nearby scan results can include devices other than your relay.

Nearby Bluetooth device names, Bluetooth addresses (MAC addresses), signal strength (RSSI), advertising data, and scan timing: Processed on the phone to discover and identify nearby Bluetooth devices and establish a connection. Scan results are handled in memory; they are not automatically uploaded to us.

Saved device address, original name, display name you set, date/time added, and device-type setting: Stored in the App's local database so you can identify and reconnect to saved devices.

Relay-device password: Stored with the saved device and used to authenticate operations. The device password is included in Bluetooth requests sent to the selected relay; a password-change request also sends the new password to that relay. This is a hardware-device password, not an App account password.

Relay-control requests, device replies, relay channel count and current on/off states, and connection status: Exchanged with the selected Bluetooth device and processed to operate the relay and display its current state. The App does not maintain a separate persistent activity or relay-command history.

Information you voluntarily send when contacting support: Your email address, message, and any attachments you choose to send are used to respond to your request. The App does not automatically send this information. Please do not send relay passwords or other unnecessary sensitive information.

Permissions and location

Bluetooth and location permissions are requested to enable device discovery and communication. Requirements and permission labels vary by Android version and phone manufacturer.

Nearby devices / Bluetooth scan and connect: On Android 12 and later, used to discover nearby Bluetooth devices and connect to a device you choose.

Android location permissions: The current version also requests location permissions as part of Bluetooth-scanning compatibility: fine location on Android 6–11, and coarse/fine location alongside nearby-device permissions on Android 12 and later. The App does not use GPS or other positioning APIs to obtain geographic coordinates, derive your physical location from Bluetooth scan results, or track your movements.

Legacy Bluetooth permissions: On older Android versions, used for Bluetooth discovery and communication.

The App does not request background location access. It does not request camera, microphone, contacts, SMS, or broad access to shared phone files. You can deny or revoke permissions in Android Settings; doing so may prevent scanning, discovery, connection, or control features from working.

Where information goes and who may receive it

The App does not automatically send its scan results, saved-device database, relay passwords, or relay activity to a server operated by us. It does not contain the Android INTERNET permission in the current release.

The Bluetooth relay you select receives the authentication and control information needed to carry out your requests. This device communication is an essential part of the feature you use.

Android system backup or device-transfer services may copy App data, potentially including the saved-device database and relay passwords. The current App allows system backup and does not specifically exclude those database fields. Whether a backup or transfer occurs depends on the Android version, manufacturer, provider, and your settings. The backup or transfer provider may therefore process this data under its own terms and privacy notice. We do not operate that system backup service.

If you choose to contact us, your email provider and our email/support providers process the correspondence as needed to deliver and respond to it. We use the information for support and handling privacy requests, not advertising.

We do not sell or rent personal data. We do not share App device data with advertisers or analytics providers. Information you voluntarily provide to us may be disclosed where required by applicable law or a valid legal request.

Storage, retention, and deletion

Saved-device records remain in the App's private local storage until you remove the record or remove the relevant App data. Scan results and live device states are used in memory for discovery and control, rather than maintained as a separate permanent usage record.

You can remove a saved device using Remove in the App. This deletes its saved record, including the locally saved password, from the App's active database.

You can clear all local App data using Android Settings > Apps > DSD TECH SWITCH > Storage > Clear storage (wording varies by phone). Uninstalling the App normally removes its local data, unless your system lets you retain it or later restores it from a backup.

Deleting an App record or uninstalling the App does not erase an existing cloud backup, prevent a later restore, reset a relay, or change the password or state stored on the relay itself. Manage backups through your Android, Google, or device-manufacturer backup settings; use the relay's own controls or instructions to change hardware settings.

We cannot remotely access, retrieve, or delete the database on your phone or copies held by your backup provider. If you voluntarily send support correspondence, we retain it only as reasonably necessary to handle your request and meet applicable recordkeeping requirements. You can request deletion using the contact below; we may retain information that we are legally required to keep.

Security

Local records are kept in Android app-private storage. The current App does not add a separate encryption layer to the locally stored relay password or to its relay-protocol messages. Bluetooth-link protection also depends on the phone, operating system, and relay hardware. We do not claim that the device password is protected by end-to-end encryption.

Protect access to your phone, use trusted relay hardware, and manage device passwords and system backups carefully. A relay password is not a substitute for a strong password used for an online account. No storage or communication method can be guaranteed completely secure.

Third-party software, logs, websites, and platform services

The current App uses software libraries for its interface, local database, and Bluetooth communication. It does not integrate advertising SDKs, user-analytics SDKs, or the Google Play Services SDK. Installing the App from Google Play or using Android system backup does not mean that such an SDK is embedded in the App.

The App does not use cookies or embed a web-based tracking interface. If you independently open a website or an email application, that website, browser, or email service handles information under its own practices. This policy describes the Android App; it does not describe every data practice of websites or services you visit separately.

The current production App disables its application-level and Bluetooth-library debug logging. Local database components, Android, or the phone manufacturer may still generate local diagnostic information; system diagnostics also depend on platform settings. The App does not automatically upload diagnostic logs or crash reports to us. If you choose to share a screenshot or diagnostic information with support, review it and remove unrelated or sensitive details first.

Your choices and privacy requests

You can stop using the App, revoke permissions, remove saved devices, clear App storage, and manage system backups. There is no App account to register or delete.

Where applicable law gives you rights such as access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or a complaint to a supervisory authority, you may contact us about information you have provided to us. For data held only on your phone or by a backup provider, the local and provider controls described above are the practical ways to manage it. We do not require you to send your device database or relay password merely to ask a privacy question.

Children's privacy

The app is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly request personal information from children under 13. If a child has provided personal information to us through support, a parent or guardian can contact us to request deletion.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the app's features or information-handling practices change. We will publish the revised policy at the privacy-policy link available in the app and update the date above. Where applicable, we will provide additional notice or request permission before introducing a new use of information.
